Former Chief of the Air Staff
Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major has flown over 7000 hours on the Sentinel, T6G, Mi-4, Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters. He has the distinction of commanding the IAF’s first Siachen Glacier – the world’s highest battlefield. He also led his Mi-17 Squadron, which operated at the Indian peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka. He personally led the daring rescue of eleven passengers form a stranded cable car in the middle of a valley at a resort in Himachal Pradesh. He took over as the Kargil conflict. He also served as the Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Personnel Airmen & Civilian) at Air Head Quarters as an Air Vice Marshal. He directed the relief, rescue and rehabilitation operations of the Indian Armed Forces, in India and abroad, in the aftermath of Tsunami as the deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Operations) at HQ Integrated Defence Staff as an Air Marshal. He later served as the Air Officer commanding-in-chief, Eastern Air Command. He took over as the Chief of the Air Staff on 31st March 2007 & retired from service on 31 May 2009.
